Video Poker is often considered as the next step up from video slot games, as video poker involves a greater level of skill and strategy. So how do you play?
Video poker is a virtual card game where players are randomly dealt five cards from a 52 card pack. The player then has the chance to choose which of these cards they want to keep or ‘hold’ and which cards they want to discard (up to a maximum of three cards). You can then ‘draw’ again to replace the cards you don’t want.
The final selection of cards in your five-card hand determines the pay-out you win – the lowest possible payout is for a high pair of cards, with greater prizes if you land more difficult card combinations. These hands include two pairs, three of a kind, a straight (with five cards in consecutive order), a full house (with a pair and three of a kind) or a flush (where all five cards have the same suit). The exact amount you win per hand varies for each game, but each game will have a pay table outlining the pay-out for different poker hands.
Types of Games
As with all casino games there are many different variations of video poker, although the most common game type is ‘Jacks or Better.’ In this game, in order to win a payoff the player’s hand must include at least one pair of jacks.
